 With over ten years of experience in owning and operating businesses in the construction, sales, and restaurant industries, Thomas Sims was a born leader. In 1998, Sims served as a project/general manager for Re-Roofing America Corp. From commercial to residential projects, he was responsible for each projects’ successful completion.
It was in 2000 that he owned and operated A+ Home Improvement Inc, a construction company that generated over 5 million of business. Under his leadership the company expanded to other states including Missouri, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
His responsibilities included recruiting and training all contractors’ reps. in estimating and project management for all phases of construction including framing, roofing, electrical, HVAC, foundation, plumbing and more. He was in charge of all budgeting, project organization and financing for the company. He also is a state licensed contractor in Maryland and Virginia.
In 2003 he pushed the envelope owning three companies, A + Home Improvement, Inc., Sims Bros Construction and the Living Room Restaurant and Bar, Inc. One of the highlights of this busy time was a 1.5 million dollar commercial project that took place in downtown New Orleans.
This project was very detailed and complex because it involved renovating a historic building located at 2800 Magazine St. – blighted, over 100-year-old building. This brick building was falling down and had to be rebuilt from the inside out. All interior including the foundation was ripped out leaving only the brick exterior walls. Construction work included steel support, foundation, framing, plumbing, HVAC, and custom trim design for ceilings, stairs, bars, etc. All construction had to be approved by the Historic Districts Landmark Commission in New Orleans.
Mr. Sims spent much of his time designing, managing, budgeting and contracting many new construction projects. Some of the residential projects completing during this time included approximately 20 townhouses and at least five single family units - mostly in the New Orleans metropolitan area.
After disaster struck in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina, he was in charge of approximately six residential units. He generated over five million dollars worth of new construction business to date in the New Orleans metropolitan area due to Hurricane Katrina. Since 2005, he has remained the owner of A + Home Improvement, Inc. and Sims Brothers Construction.
But Mr. Sims success is not only felt in the business world. He is a proud graduate of the University of New Orleans where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and minor in construction management.
